Hillbilly Dishwasher

When we first bought our house, I was so excited that it had a dishwasher! That is one thing that I can't live without.
Isn't it pretty?!?!
However, I was shocked the first time I actually tried to use my wonderful dishwasher! I had discovered that I had a "Hillbilly Dishwasher." SURPRISE! See, the dishwasher had been added to the house by the previous owners...which the kitchen has limited space as it is. So, the only way you can get in the dishwasher is by opening up the stove first!!!!
See...
I guess I can't complain too much because I have a working dishwasher, but it is frustrating sometimes. The lower rack always falls back into the dishwasher while I'm loading it. I have pretty well mastered holding it with my knee while loading now. :) I also can't do the dishes right after I cook. My little "helper" climbes onto the stove then the dishwasher so I have to make sure the stove has cooled off first.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who had a surprise once we purchased our house. What surprises did you have?

  1. Ah, this is hilarious (I'm laughing with you, not at you)! We discovered the walls in our new place weren't square. When Justin was hanging shelving in our closet, he had to trim down the lower shelf because the wall stuck out more at the bottom.

  2. Hilarious. Great helper picture too :)

The previous owners of our house thought that Liquid Nail fixed everything so I have had some interesting times getting things off in my house. I think after 10 years we have conquered all the Liquid Nail.

  3. That's awesome! Our dishwasher is "portable" meaning we have it sitting along the end of the cabinets and when we need to use it, we push it to the sink, hook a hose to the faucet and plug it into the wall!
